Kensington is a four-piece band, a simple classic set-up. In contrast, their music is truly contemporary. After releasing Borders, their debut album, Kensington embarked on a rather succesful journey. Multiple hitsingles on the radio, sold out venues (Paradiso, Tivoli, Rotown, 013) plus tours in Indonesia, USA, France, Belgium and Serbia. Sharing the stage with bands such as White Lies, Razorlight, My Chemical Romance and The Wombats establishes Kensington’s reputation even further. The band was honoured to be nominated for three 3FM Awards, winner of the Kink FM’s ”Festival Ambassador 2011” and the 3voor12 Utrecht Song Of The Year Award. Furthermore, multiple appearances on national TV (DWDD, MTV, heck, even gameshow Lingo!) and a 3FM Megahit with Let Go. Being called ”one of The Netherlands best bands” by OOR after their performance at the Noorderslag Festival confirmed Kensington’s rising star. 3voor12 reviewed a headline show in Rotown and concluded the band’s show and songmaterial is of ”international standards”. ZIP Records from San Fransisco acknowledged this by releasing Borders in the US and Canada in October 2011.
Kensington recorded their first album in Leeds (UK) in Kaiser Chiefs’ Nick ”Peanut” Baines studio and worked with people such as John Davis (U2, Arctic Monkeys) and James Kenosha (Pulled Apart By Horses). With album 2, Kensington wanted to up the bar, on all levels. After a long string of summer festivals in 2011 the band spent months writing and recording in Berlin. Kensington now returns with ‘Vultures’, the follow-up to their criticly acclaimed debut. ‘Vultures’ is mixed by Cenzo Townshend, England’s most in-demand mixing engineer. After working with Editors, U2, Snow Patrol, Bloc Party, The Maccabees and many more, Townshend took the Kensington’s already multi-layered sound to the next level. First single We Are The Young took Dutch radio by storm and after signing with major label Universal Music, the future looks brighter than ever.
