Maylee Todd is one of Canada’s most exciting young performers, and after selling out shows on her first tour of France and the U.K. is poised for success on the international stage. With a quirky and charismatic stage presence, Maylee delivers an incredibly diverse repertoire of soulful pop tunes, often inspired tropical grooves and featuring such obscure instruments as the Paraguayan harp. Her background in drama and comedy gives Maylee the range to inject humour and a true sense of performance art into her music; her shows are more than just concerts, they are creative experiences. ??

After collaborating with various artists including Woodhands, she formed her band Pegwee Power and released her debut album Choose Your Own Adventure on the Do Right! Music label in Canada. The album has received glowing reviews from the likes of NOW Magazine, and the Globe and Mail. Her first single “Summer Sounds” has gained international airplay on J-Wave Tokyo, Gilles Peterson’s BBC Radio 1 London, and Radio Nova in Paris; her second single “Aerobics in Space” has become an instant viral video hit. Other collaborations include composing for an interactive web film entitled High Rises for the National Film Board Canada.

Turning heads with her outrageous live shows, her busy 2010 schedule included headlining gigs at The Evolve Festival and Harbourfront Centre, as well performing alongside Aloe Blacc, Esthero, Little Dragon, Ebony Bones, Woodhands and The Budos Band. Maylee continues to turn heads and defy genre classification.

Maylee is poised to make an even bigger breakthrough in the summer of 2011. Among the highlights will be: opening for American soul sensation Janelle Monae at the c/o pop Festival in Cologne, Germany; and joining a who’s who of Canadian indie talent such as the Hidden Cameras and Chilly Gonzales at The Barbican in London for Canadian Blast – a spectacular two-day party organized by the Canadian Independent Music Association that is the largest Canada Day celebration outside of Canada. After her European adventure, Maylee will be heading into the studio to record her second album, scheduled for release in 2012.
