The Megaphonic Thrift is a Norwegian indie-supergroup of sorts consisting of Richard Myklebust of Stereo21 and Young Dreams, Linn Frøkedal and Njål Clementsen of Low Frequency In Stereo and Fredrik Vogsborg of Casiokids and Young Dreams.
Built To Spill, Sonic Youth, Swervedriver and Guided By Voices are the most common references, as their tunes span from fragile moments to huge walls of guitar noise. The band have have labeled their music noise-pop with elements from shoegaze.
The band quickly started drawing attention after their inception in late 2007, and released their first 7-inch, “Acid Blues/Mad Mary” in November of 2008. 2009 saw the band tour extensively, playing Roskilde, Iceland Airwaves, Øya and Ragnarock among others, being hailed as one of the most interesting new prospect from Scandinavia. 2010 saw the release of their first EP “A Thousand Years of Deconstruction” on Deadly People Records and the band bursting onto the international scene with full effect. They won over crowds at EuroSonic, Popkomm, The Great Escape, Berlin Festival, ILMC, Reeperbahn and Øya festivals among others. A tour with A Place To Bury Strangers in the UK led to them signing an international record deal with well renowned ClubAC30 for their debut album “Decay Decoy” which was released that in 2010 in Norway on Hype City Recordings to rave reviews. 2011 sees the full international release of “Decay Decoy” on ClubAC30 in Europe on February 21st and on Sonic Unyon in North America on March 8th. The band will be support the release with tours Europe and North America in March, SXSW being among the shows confirmed. Band Of Horses has handpicked them for support in Norway and they’ve already started work on their sophomore album. The future is looking very bright indeed.
